Advent Compline

Compline Each Sunday Evening During Advent at 8 PM

In a world rushing to celebrate Christmas, the Compline Choir will sing the service of Compline (Night Prayer) in our candlelit sanctuary offering quiet, silence, and serenity in the midst of our chaotic lives. We take the time to prepare for the Christmas season through this contemplative season of Advent—a season of expectation, delayed fulfillment, and hope.

The Office of Compline, the last of the daily services of prayer and praise, dates to the 4th century monastic tradition. Traditionally, the service includes psalms of comfort, an evening hymn, a confession, the Gospel Canticle of Simeon (“Now, Lord, you let your servant go in peace…”), and a blessing.

Recitals Before Each Service

Prior to each service at 7:30 PM will be a recital featuring local musicians. This year’s series includes the following performers:

  • November 28: Laura Stevens, flute (Augsburg)
  • December 5: UNCSA Graduate Woodwind Quintet
  • December 12: Cecilia String Quartet (UNCSA)
  • December 19: Harry Ngo, classical guitar (UNCSA)

All are welcome to attend these recitals and services.

May we all feel God’s peace throughout this season of Advent.
